The Melting Pot in Ahwatukee Has Closed After 26 Years
September 28, 2026 · 4 min read · Ahwatukee

What happened
If you drove past the corner of Ray Road and Ranch Circle recently and wondered why the lights were off, here is the news. The Melting Pot of Ahwatukee closed for business on Sunday, August 30, 2026. The restaurant announced it on its own Facebook page the next morning, and the reason it gave was a hard one to read: the unexpected passing of its owner.
It had been part of Ahwatukee since 2000. That's 26 years of birthdays, anniversaries and first dates at the same spot on Ray Road, right at the edge of Mountain Park Ranch. The restaurant said it was closing indefinitely, and there is no word yet on what will happen to the space.
Our thoughts are with the owner's family and with the staff, who made so many of those evenings what they were.
What it meant to me
I'll be honest: this one stings. I loved going to the Melting Pot, sometimes just for the cheese and the chocolate, sometimes for a fancy date night, and more than once to celebrate an anniversary or a birthday. The ambiance was always beautiful, the service was wonderful, and the servers and hostesses were gracious. They always made sure the occasion felt special. On Valentine's Day they'd even take your picture and hand you a printed photo to take home.
I loved the yin-yang martini. Some of my family would tell you they'd rather not pay good money to cook their own dinner, and I understand the argument. I never saw it that way. I always found it a treasured experience: all the different sauces and flavors, the cooking styles, the cheese and chocolate options, and every dessert we got to dip in that chocolate.
A lot of people in Ahwatukee have a Melting Pot story. If you have one, I'd love to hear it.
If you have a Melting Pot gift card
Hold on to it. The restaurant says Melting Pot gift cards can be used at any of its locations nationwide and have no expiration date. The closest location to Ahwatukee now is in Arrowhead, in Glendale, and that's where the restaurant has invited its Ahwatukee guests to go.
Where to go for a night out in Ahwatukee now
Nothing quite replaces a fondue pot, but if you're looking for somewhere local for a special evening, here are a few places from my Ahwatukee Relocation Guide:
- Origami Ramen, also on Ray Road. Chef-driven ramen and Japanese dishes, with several "Best of Phoenix" awards behind it.
- Hillside Spot, on Warner Road. A community favorite since 2009, serving dinner Wednesday through Sunday, with a full espresso bar and more than 100 craft beers.
- Nello's, also on Warner. A longtime Ahwatukee pizza and Italian staple with a covered patio that's hard to beat on a nice evening.
- Good Time Charli's, just over the line on West Chandler Boulevard. Stone-fired pizza, 26 beers on tap, and live music most nights.
The guide covers far more than restaurants: parks, trails, schools and what each part of Ahwatukee is actually like to live in. It's free, and it's the same guide I send to people moving here.
A neighborhood changes a little
Restaurants come and go, and most of the time it's just business. This one feels different because of the reason, and because of how many of our milestones happened at those tables. That's part of what living in Ahwatukee is: the places you celebrate in become part of the story of the neighborhood.
