Relocating to Chandler
Moving in from out of state, with someone who has lived here eighteen years telling you the truth about it.
You are choosing a city, and the shortlist is short
Relocating to Chandler usually starts the same way. A job or a transfer points at the Southeast Valley, a few evenings of searching narrow it to three or four cities, and then the search stalls, because every one of them looks appealing from two thousand miles away.
Chandler is where a great deal of relocation into the Southeast Valley lands first, and often for good reason. It has a major technology employment base and the only genuinely walkable historic downtown of its immediate neighbors.
What you get from me is the comparison done honestly. Not a list of reasons Chandler is wonderful, but a straight account of what it gives you, what it costs you, and which of the neighboring cities would suit you better if it would. I would rather lose the transaction than move someone into the wrong city.
After that comes the practical half: remote touring you can actually judge a house from, showings grouped into one visit rather than four, and a purchase timed around a start date instead of hoped into place.
The wider relocation service is on my relocation page, and Chandler as a place is here.

Why relocating buyers work with Savvy Realty Group
Savvy Realty Group is my practice at HomeSmart, and relocation is a large part of what I do.
The reason it works is not that I know every street in every city. It is that I have made this decision myself. I moved to Ahwatukee in 2008 having already lived all over the Valley, so when I compare the Southeast Valley cities for you I am comparing places I have actually spent time in rather than places I have read about.
That also means I will tell you where my knowledge is thickest. Ahwatukee is my home market. Chandler is a market I serve regularly and know well enough to advise on with confidence, and the two sit twenty minutes apart.
On the record: 100% five-star across 35+ Google reviews. I mention the review record specifically because when you are buying from another state, the only thing you really have to go on is how other people were treated.
What you should expect is somebody who answers the question you asked, including when the answer is that a different city fits you better. Start with a conversation, from wherever you are.
How a relocation actually runs from a distance
One. The city conversation, before any listings. Where you will work, what you want your evenings and weekends to look like, and how much you care about walkability. That conversation decides more than any search filter, and it is the one most agents skip in order to send you homes quickly.
Two. A shortlist you can actually compare. Chandler against Gilbert and Tempe, with the trade-offs named rather than smoothed over. If Ahwatukee suits you better, I will say so, and it is the market I know best.
Three. Remote touring that is worth watching. I walk homes on video and describe what the listing photographs are not showing you. I will also tell you plainly when a house is not worth a flight, which saves more time than anything else I do for out-of-state buyers.
Four. One concentrated visit. Where possible I group showings into a single trip rather than expecting you to keep flying in.
Five. Offer, escrow and the timing around a start date. Arizona closings run through escrow and title, and moving dates rarely line up neatly with job start dates. That gets planned rather than hoped for.
The full buyer track is at how I help you buy.
What a weekend in Chandler actually looks like
The part of Chandler that people relocating in tend to underestimate is the downtown. It is a walkable historic core around Dr. A.J. Chandler Park, with restaurants, boutiques and a self-guided beer trail taking in six breweries within two miles. The Summer Market runs Saturday mornings from June through September, and Third Thursdays run October through May.
That calendar is not decoration. If you are arriving without a network, a downtown with a standing weekly and monthly rhythm is a meaningfully easier place to land than a city without one.
The employment picture is the other draw. The technology and semiconductor corridor running through this part of the Southeast Valley includes Intel, Microchip Technology, NXP Semiconductors and ASML, and it is a substantial part of why relocation arrives here.
What you give up. Chandler does not have Ahwatukee's tucked-away, mountain-side quiet or its immediate South Mountain access. If trail access from your own street is the point of the move, look hard at Ahwatukee before you commit to Chandler.
School assignment depends on the specific address, so confirm it against the relevant district's current boundary map for any home rather than assuming from the city.
Frequently Asked Questions
Chandler, Gilbert or Tempe?
Chandler gives you a walkable historic downtown and a major tech employment base. Gilbert is organized around master-planned communities more than almost anywhere in the Southeast Valley. Tempe is the most urban of the three, shaped by Arizona State University. They suit genuinely different people, which is why the conversation comes before the listings.
Can I buy in Chandler without visiting first?
Yes, and plenty of my relocation clients effectively do. I walk homes on video and describe what the photographs are hiding, and I will tell you when a property is not worth flying out for.
How far is Chandler from Ahwatukee?
About twenty minutes. Chandler sits directly east of Ahwatukee, which makes moving between the two a short move rather than a different life. That is worth knowing if you are weighing the two.
What is the downside of Chandler?
You give up the tucked-away, mountain-side quiet that Ahwatukee has, and the trail access straight from the neighborhoods. Chandler trades that for a downtown with real dining and nightlife. Whether that is a gain or a loss depends entirely on you.

What relocation looks like in Chandler
A Southeast Valley city with a genuinely walkable downtown and a major tech employment base.
Part of the Southeast Valley I serve regularly.
- Why people choose it
- Many buyers here are relocating for work, a substantial number of them in semiconductors and tech. Chandler is where a lot of relocation into the Southeast Valley lands first.
- Getting around
- Directly east of Ahwatukee, so it is a short move rather than a different life.
- Nearby
- Downtown Chandler is the real differentiator: a walkable historic core around Dr. A.J. Chandler Park with restaurants, boutiques and a self-guided beer trail taking in six breweries within two miles. The Summer Market runs Saturday mornings from June through September, and Third Thursdays run October through May.
- The trade-off
- You gain a downtown with actual nightlife and dining, which Ahwatukee does not have and does not pretend to. You give up Ahwatukee's tucked-away, mountain-side quiet and the immediate South Mountain access.
